Applying for disaster recovery assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration just got easier thanks to revisions made to its electronic loan application, significantly reducing the number of screens an applicant must read while filling out the form.

SBA Success Story - Fat's Grill

Fats Grill
Mishell Caligiuiri

Fats Grill a Lean, Clean Fun Machine - Mishell Caligiuiri didn't know too much about Fat's Grill, but she and her husband Mario knew a good opportunity when they saw it. "One of Mario's friends happened to be a part owner of the Grill, and knew the main owner was looking to sell about three years ago to focus on another restaurant," says Mishell.  "The more we looked into it, the more we wanted to buy it…so we did!"
Named after billiards great Minnesota Fats, the Grill was originally dedicated to billiards and food.  But, Mishell and Mario had bigger plans.  Using Mario's expertise and the resources of his construction company, the new owners decided to remodel the basement to accommodate private parties, live music and the acquisition of a liquor license to support a full bar.  It was then they approached an SBA lender about an expansion loan.
Since the expansion and remodel was completed, Fat's Grill has been a magnet for local bands looking for that break-out engagement, and the Caligiuiri's have been pleased with the results.  "The combination of live music, good food and drinks has worked well for us," explains Mishell.  "And having a stable staff here really helps as well.  I don't have to worry about the quality of the food or the service at all."
And the billiard tables?  "They're still here and they get used a lot, even in the daytime during the week.  We wanted to expand on a good thing, but we didn't change the reason Fat's Grill was here to start with," adds Mishell.
Minnesota Fats would definitely feel right at home at Fat's Grill.
